Borders School of Music Grand Opening

Borders School of Music started taking on students at the start of 2020 and since then we have experienced a turbulent time. The pandemic hit soon after moving into our building and then more recently we experienced some major and unexpected building works. With the school now fully operational and as we are clear of the restrictions from the pandemic we would love to finally hold a grand opening for the school.

We will have an afternoon of celebrations starting with a free concert from a celebrity singer who will be announced in the next couple of weeks, performing a set at Mac Arts. We will then have an opening ceremony at our school building followed by an open day giving you a chance to invite friends and family to have a good look around our facility, meet our tutors and try out some other instruments. Celebrations will then continue with live music back at Mac Arts later in the evening featuring performances from students, tutors, guest vocalists and guest musicians and also a jam session.

Mac Arts

MacArts is run by the Duncan MacKinnon Music and Arts Trust – a charitable organisation inspired by the visionary spirit of Dunc Mackinnon, a prominent Borders promoter who brought high profile acts to the Scottish Borders in the 1960s. The Trust was formed to fulfil an ambition to create a state-of-the-art music and arts venue and community space in a disused listed building of historic and architectural significance in the centre of Galashiels with an emphasis on involving everyone in the community ; this space is now known as MacArts.
